After the 6 February Earthquakes, the outputs of the program, in which Support to Life supported projects prepared by the people in the disaster area based on their own needs, have been turned into a report. The report 'Survivor and Community Led Response in the Earthquake Zone/Hatay and Kahramanmaraş Experience' conveys the background of this pioneering work in the field of humanitarian aid.

In 2023, Support to Life started emergency aid intervention immediately after the earthquake, and later focused on early recovery efforts and disaster risk reduction in disaster areas. One of the important pillars of our localization efforts, which we focus on based on the fact that the first responders to disasters and the people living in the region can produce effective and fast solutions to their common needs, is the Survivor and Community Led Response (SCLR) Program.

The outputs of this program, which we first ran in 2021 with communities affected by the forest fires in Manavgat and Marmaris and the floods in Kastamonu, were published in a report in March 2023.

We continue to support local people's disaster resilience projects in Adıyaman, Hatay, Malatya and Kahramanmaraş. The program in Hatay and Kahramanmaraş is being implemented with financial support from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP).

This second report focuses on the earthquake response in Hatay and Kahramanmaraş, covering the period from April 2023 to July 2024. A total of 102 community projects in the two provinces were supported with micro-grants, benefiting more than 21,000 people in total.

The program, which aims to increase the capacity of communities to be resilient to disasters, has supported projects in areas such as health, women and children empowerment, sports activities and culture and arts, in addition to basic needs such as temporary shelter, repair and psychosocial support.

The report 'Survivor and Community Led Response in Earthquake Zone / Hatay and Kahramanmaraş Experience' provides a theoretical framework for the 'Survivor and Community-Led Crisis Response, SCLR' approach at the international level, as well as the positive outcomes of the program process carried out by Support to Life in Hatay and Kahramanmaraş and the lessons learned for the upcoming period, with quotes from the community members.
