As of December 8, the fall of the Assad regime in Syria ushered in a new era in the country that has been the scene of conflict since 2011. 7.2 million people have been internally displaced and 6.2 million people have sought refuge in other countries. The process of rebuilding the country remains uncertain.

Support to Life, which has been supporting refugees fleeing war to access basic rights and services since 2012 as part of its refugee support program, conducted a survey to understand the future plans and humanitarian needs of refugees in Türkiye following the recent developments in Syria.

In the survey conducted between December 13-20 2024, a total of 460 households were interviewed; the plans and needs of 1,161 adults and 1,374 children, i.e. 2,542 people in total, were learned.

The survey was conducted in Kayseri, Kilis, Kütahya, Mardin, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon, Hatay, Adıyaman, Gaziantep, Kahramanmaraş and İzmir.

According to the results of the survey, 53% of respondents stated that they would like to stay in Türkiye, while 18.9% would like to return to Syria. 8.9% would like to settle in a third country, while 19% are undecided about whether to go or stay.

The report containing the survey data is available here.
